Kylie Bailey
Bachelor of Communication Studies majoring in Journalism (AUT)
I am a freelance science communicator and journalist, who has honed my skills delivering mission-led science communications and media relations. This included regular contract work for four National Science Challenges (Sustainable Seas, Building Better Homes, Towns and Cities, Ageing Well and Our Land and Water) as well as supporting researchers based in independent research organisations and at universities throughout Aotearoa.
I love collaborating with researchers and organisations to find fresh ways of sharing science stories. As a former magazine journalist and editor, I am well-versed across all facets of strategic science communications with a legacy of producing impactful, mission-led publications and getting science stories covered by the media.
While my curious, word-loving brain is interested in how to plain language all sciences so they connect with the intended audience, I am particularly passionate about:
improving ocean health and marine management
supporting Indigenous knowledge systems
the prevention of non-communicable diseases
understanding how to support our ageing population
creating better access to affordable housing
delivering climate mitigations and adaptations for towns and cities
improving our food systems and food security
